Links - Anglican Archives Network (AAN)
The Anglican Archives Network (AAN) was formed out of discussions at the Anglican History Seminar held at Morpeth, NSW, in September 2002, which was attended by archivists from a number of Anglican dioceses in Australia.
The AAN was recognised by the Standing Committee of General Synod under the auspices of the Strategic Issues, Task Forces and Other Bodies Canon 1998 (-2001), under Section 17 of “Part V - General Synod Networks”.
Co-ordinator
The Co-ordinator of the AAN is Dr Louise Trott, the , who was appointed to this position in November 2005. Dr Trott works closely with Mrs Joanne Burgess, the , in all aspects of this work. For any further information about the AAN, please contact Dr Trott.
The previous and foundation Co-ordinator of the AAN, from 2002-2005, was Mrs Glenda Murrell, who was the Brisbane Diocesan Archivist during that time.
Contacts List for Anglican Archives in Australia
The primary purpose of the AAN is to provide a means of contact and interaction between the archivists and staff working in archives of Anglican dioceses, organisations, schools, theological colleges and parishes. This has been achieved via the inclusion of a list of contact details for Anglican archival collections on the General Synod website, under the menu Community / Networks: Anglican archives in Australia.
The archives of dioceses, schools and theological colleges dominate this list so far.
Any Anglican archival organisation wishing to be added to this list, or wishing to provide updated information, should contact the Sydney Diocesan Archivist.
Provision of Access to Scholars
A secondary purpose of the AAN is to interact with, and provide assistance to, those seeking access to archival records held in these collections, for the purpose of research.
The list of contact details of archives on the General Synod Office website provides initial assistance to scholars.
Australian Anglican Historical Documents and Images
As a more long-term method of fulfilling this second purpose, the AAN has been involved in consultation with the members of the National Anglican Web-Based Archive Project. Two meetings were held at the General Synod Office in 2006 (30th March 2006 and 25th October 2006, hosted by the General Secretary, the Reverend Canon Bruce McAteer) to discuss this Project. At these meetings, Louise Trott and Joanne Burgess met with a group of representatives and editors from this Project (including the Reverend Dr Bruce Kaye, Associate Professor Brian Dickey, and Dr Geoffrey Treloar), to provide advice and ideas as to how the archives and archivists of the AAN might work with, and provide assistance to, the Project. The AAN will continue to meet with the editors of this project, as necessary.
As of October 2006, the project has been renamed the ‘Australian Anglican Historical Documents and Images’ project (AAHDI).
